The color schemes
- Analogous
- Neighbors on the color wheel (up to 30° either side). Calm and harmonious; good for backgrounds and soft designs.
- Monochromatic
- One hue in lighter and darker versions. Simple, consistent, and hard to get wrong.
- Complementary
- The base and its opposite on the wheel (180°). High contrast: use one as the main color and the other for accents.
- Split complementary
- The base and the two colors either side of its opposite (150° and 210°). Lively, with less tension than complementary.
- Triadic
- Three colors evenly spaced (120° apart). Vibrant and balanced; let one color lead.
- Square
- Four colors evenly spaced (90° apart). Rich and varied; works best with one dominant color.

Shades and contrast
The shade scale runs from 50 (nearly white) to 950 (nearly black) in the base color's hue, like the scales in design systems such as Tailwind. It's built in the OKLCH color space, so the steps look evenly spaced.
Each color shows whether white or black text reads better on it, with its contrast ratio and WCAG level:AA (at least 4.5:1) is the minimum for normal text, AAA (7:1) is better.
